Sofia wants to place a sticker 2.5 inches long in the center of a switch box that is 3.75 inches wide. How far from the edge will she place the...

Hello!

I suppose a sticker is placed level and that "in the center" means that the distance between the left sides is the same as between the right sides.

If the distance between the left side of a sticker and the left side of a switch box will be `x` feet, then the distance between the right sides will be also `x` feet.

In such a way, `x` + the length of a sticker + `x` = the width of a switch box, or

`2x+2.5=3.75,` or

`2x = 3.75-2.5=1.25,` so

`x = 1.25/2 = 0.625` (feet).

This is the answer.
